In line with The Dog Grocer’s beliefs in environment sustainability and building a more resilient future for people and nature, we see great value in rethinking the way we produce and consume. Creating a sustainable food system means the need to respect our food and its sources. However, excessive consumerism and mass production of meat often do not consider the welfare and lives of the animals, nor the wastage from surplus of popular cuts. This commercial value consumers and suppliers place on “premium” cuts of meat often devalues off-cuts and trims that are equally nutritious. With the goal of minimal waste in mind, TDG works towards creating healthy, nutritious pet treats using a variety of cuts and the “less desirable” offals.
TDG duck treats are sourced fresh, instead of frozen, from Malaysia. In traditional Chinese medicine, duck is considered a “Yin” food; representing the concepts of cooling, fluids, and quietness as opposed to “Yang” which represents the concepts of heat, inflammation, outward energy. Some holistic veterinarians recommend adding “cooling foods” such as duck to pets with inflammatory conditions such as allergies. Duck tongues are ozone washed and bones are removed before they get cleaned further. Further processing is also done to manually remove little pockets of oil on the fatty duck tongue. This not only ensures a lower fat and caloric content, it also gives a longer shelf life so these tongues remain fresh for longer.
All treats and chews are packaged in food grade home compostable packaging.
